Sanbir

My name is Sanbir Atwal, and I am a first year student at Thompson Rivers University enrolled in the Communications program. I was born at the Kamloops hospital and have lived in Kamloops my entire life. I come from an Indo Canadian background, as my parents immigrated to Canada from India in the early years of their marriage in search of better opportunities and a stronger future.

I graduated from Brocklehurst Middle School in 2022 and Norkam Secondary School in 2025. Growing up, I was surrounded by a very active and sporty environment, largely influenced by my cousins. Being around such an energetic group led me to develop a strong interest in athletics and maintaining a healthy lifestyle.

Basketball has always been my main passion. I played from grades 6 through 12 and also competed on a travel team. While basketball remains my primary sport, I have also developed interests in soccer, rugby, and even cooking, which has become a creative outlet for me outside of athletics.

I have high ambitions for my professional future. I entered the Communications program to strengthen my reading, writing, and public speaking skills, as these are essential for my long term goals. I plan to attend law school outside of British Columbia, preferably in the United States. My dream school is Yale, and I hope to practice corporate, personal injury, or property law. Ultimately, I aspire to work internationally, ideally in New York or somewhere in the United Kingdom.
